Mutated Abilities are one of Fatal Claw’s three named ability systems, alongside Engraved Skills and Cabitz. The source pack defines Mutated Abilities as traversal and attack options unlocked by absorbing infected. It also gives one confirmed named mutation: Meditation of Jibanam, the water-related ability tied to the Meditation of Jibanam and Water Cat achievements. Because the pack does not provide a full in-game list, this page separates confirmed mutation names from related movement tools.
That distinction matters. A wiki page can be useful without pretending every movement unlock is definitely a mutation. Fatal Claw includes Dash, air dash, wall climb, glide, Lyani’s Claws, Blink, and Silver Chain as acquired movement tools. Some may sit near mutation routing in practice, but the source pack only explicitly labels Meditation of Jibanam as a mutation ability. Use the table below as a responsible route checklist, not as an unsupported completion database.
Confirmed And Related Unlocks
| Name | Source-pack status | How it is obtained or used |
|---|---|---|
| Meditation of Jibanam | Confirmed mutation ability | Acquired through the Jibanam water route; required for Water Sanctuary and water traversal context. |
| Lyani’s Claws | Confirmed early expansion ability | Opens new paths after its unlock and supports backtracking through earlier rooms. |
| Dash | Confirmed acquired movement tool | Used for basic route flow and spacing; exact source location is not provided in the pack. |
| Air dash | Confirmed acquired movement tool | Extends platforming and combat repositioning after the relevant route unlock. |
| Wall climb | Confirmed acquired movement tool | Lets Kisha revisit vertical routes and rooms marked by Carox. |
| Glide | Confirmed movement tool | Can grab walls while gliding after a feedback-driven change noted in the source pack. |
| Blink | Confirmed combat and movement tool | Teleports behind enemies and also works in movement and puzzle situations. |
| Silver Chain | Confirmed 1.0 Aphotic Marsh ability | Late-game traversal and Engraved Skill context after Aphotic Marsh. |
How Mutated Abilities Fit Progression
Fatal Claw is a Metroidvania, so an ability unlock is often a map key disguised as a combat tool. The source pack says Mutated Abilities are absorbed from infected, and that framing explains why the game can turn enemy power into route access. When a room has water, a high wall, a sealed side path, or a route that seems just out of reach, the correct answer may be to mark it and return later.
Meditation of Jibanam is the cleanest example. Lower Moss Cave is tied to Jibanam forest-gone-wrong notes and water matters. Water Sanctuary requires Meditation of Jibanam for the Third Key of Hope. The Water Cat achievement confirms that the ability changes Kisha’s relationship with water. That is enough information to build a safe route rule: if water blocks progress, do not brute force it before the Jibanam mutation is handled.
Route Habits
Use Carox from the start. The source pack identifies Carox as the Cat Radar Codex and says it can pin rooms. That makes it the best companion for ability routing. When you see an unreachable item, a blue barrier, a water passage, or a vertical path, treat it as a note for later rather than a failed jump. Fatal Claw also has heart pieces, mana pieces, and healing pieces, so marking blocked rooms prevents upgrade cleanup from becoming guesswork.
After each new ability, revisit earlier regions in clusters. Origin Laboratory, Lower Moss Cave, Strigine Quarry, Black Canyon, and Elord Castle can all contain problems that make more sense with later tools. Do not warp away from an area before checking whether local levers or doors are properly activated; the source pack includes Stone Warp soft-lock history and warns players to activate levers before warping, even though that specific issue was patched.
Combat Use
Because Mutated Abilities are defined as traversal and attack options, they are not only keys. A movement tool can create a punish window, a safer healing angle, or a way to avoid a boss lane. Blink is especially relevant even though it is listed as one of the four core combat verbs as well as a movement tool. The best habit is to ask what the current room requires: distance, verticality, water access, safe side switching, or a counter to enemy pressure.
